Yoga for Women

Yoga for Women's Health & Wellbeing

Individualized yoga for women and Integrative Lifestyle Therapy are offered in-home in Bloomington, providing a safe and non-commercial environment for women of all ages and cultural backgrounds.

Second Nature Yoga Therapy™ encompasses each woman as a whole, supporting them physically and emotionally. Lack of long-term support, focus only on the physical manifestations of an illness, and sporadic follow-up from an aggregation of specialists in the health system leads many women to feel disconnected from their bodies, with a sense of anxiety and loss of inner wellbeing. Life-changes, health challenges, societal expectations, various roles as woman, wife, mother, caregiver, professional and / or homemaker—these are tremendous expectations, gracefully balanced by women on a daily basis. They are expected to be gentle and compassionate, yet also resilient and strong; comforter yet also disciplinarian; caregiver for others while not caring for themselves; absorbing the pain, sorrows, and difficulties of those around them while turning a blind eye to the warning signals of their exhausted bodies and depleted emotions. Yoga for women is a simple, sustaining practice, particularly during times of transition and change. Supportive yoga therapy can bring a sense of grounding, self-reliance, and calm to what may otherwise be a time of life which is challenging, or simply overwhelming.

Yoga for women 50+ or 50–

We welcome the opportunity to support women of all ages, whether they are 50+ or younger. Although the body may have more to say as we age, increasing, maintaining, or recovering range of motion and helpful movement patterns is relevant to anyone, whether young and recovering from an injury, facing challenges such as multiple sclerosis, cancer, or early onset PD, or learning to accept that we must respect our body and the changes and transitions it goes through as we grow older. That said, flexibility and wellbeing are not age-related; one can be young but utterly inflexible, while a woman in her 50s, 60s, 70s may be quite limber and at ease with her body. Regardless of age, Second Nature Yoga Therapy™ can be helpful in developing a healthy respect for one's body, a long-term relationship with the mind-body connection, and a means of self-care and awareness which are not as readily accessible with fitness-oriented activities.

"Women have been yoga practitioners over the ages. But as we applaud their many achievements, we also owe it to them to ensure that Yoga which is meant to bestow us with health and well-being becomes a support in this journey and not a hindrance. Returning to the core, Yoga is not getting on the mat, but getting into the mind." __Indra Mohan
